Bad News: President Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress have cut $1.4 trillion in federal funding from health care, food assistance, and student loan programs. They have also eliminated 280,000 federal jobs— all while 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and struggle with the rising cost of living!
Good News: Democrats still control 15 state legislatures—including New Jersey—known as blue trifecta states, where they have the power to pass state-level Job Guarantee policies. These policies can create living-wage jobs by investing in vital public programs and services, while also bringing together working people across racial and political lines.
What is a State Job Guarantee?
A State Job Guarantee is a program that creates living-wage jobs for people who cannot find full-time work. These jobs would focus on fixing our communities, caring for people in need, supporting schools, and other public services that benefit everyone.
By reducing the fear of unemployment, a Job Guarantee would also strengthen the bargaining power of all working people, helping them earn better pay, work in safer conditions, and receive fair treatment on the job.
